Sustainable & Beautiful Landscapes

Our design philosophy emphasizes pollinator-friendly plantings featuring native species that are naturally deer-resistant and low-maintenance. We avoid high-maintenance plantings and invasive exotic species, instead creating resilient, ecologically friendly landscapes that are both healthy and stunning. The result is a sustainable outdoor environment that thrives with minimal intervention while supporting local wildlife.
From something as straightforward as a privacy screen of native trees to complete foundation redesigns or entire property transformations, we have the expertise to convert your ordinary landscape into your own beautiful oasis that will flourish for years to come.

What Clients Are Saying About Our Landscape Designs

  • Jenn Thomas (Landscape Designer) and her team just completed the design and installation for the front of my house, and we couldn’t be more pleased. Jenn was excellent to work with—personable, attentive, and with a great eye for plants. Her design was both thoughtful and beautiful. Country Mile’s installation crew did an outstanding job as well. The area was a minefield of electrical conduit and drainage pipes, yet they worked efficiently and carefully, handling everything seamlessly. We’re delighted with the results.

  • I recently had my front yard redesigned and landscaped working with Erik, lead designer at Country Mile Gardens. Erik was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and answered every question. His design talents and suggestions were outstanding, and he personally oversaw the entire installation start to finish. I couldn’t be more pleased with the result.

  • I recently had the pleasure of working with Erik from Country Mile Gardens to completely redo our front landscape, and I couldn’t be happier with the results! From the very beginning, Erik listened attentively to all our concerns and desires, crafting a unique and beautiful design that met all our needs, including being deer resistant. He and his team of landscapers worked incredibly hard to plant all the new plants and even move several of our existing plants. It’s like an entirely new property!

Portfolio of Select Projects

Modern Farmhouse Foundation Planting

This beautiful farmhouse was a blank slate, in need of a foundation garden for full sun. The homeowner loves hydrangeas, and generally wanted white and lavender flowers to soften the hardscape but needed deer resistant plants. The finished landscape has year-round seasonal interest.

Year Round Curb Appeal

This driveway’s hydrangeas looked great in summer but left the entry bare for months. We replaced them with evergreens, providing spring blooms from PJM Rhododendron and dwarf Azalea, and year-round winter interest with varied evergreen foliage.

Poolside Retreat

This backyard got a fun mix of plants, with a variety of textures and colors. This full sun planting plan was laid out so that flowering shrubs invite bees away from the pool, while evergreens and grasses surrounding the pool deck attract fewer stinging insects to address the family’s concerns while providing a welcome landscape throughout the winter, when the fire pit is in full use!

Deer Resistant Foundation Planting

This Harding residence was in desperate need of a makeover. After clearing weeds and regrading the challenging slope with new drainage, Erik transformed the front entry using Dark Knight Caryopteris, Threadleaf Coreopsis, Walker’s Low Catmint, and Dwarf Pennisetum to create a welcoming, sun-loving landscape.

Sunny Island Delight

After staring at a dead boomerang-shaped island in front of her house, this Mendham customer consulted with our Lead Designer, Erik, to help rebuild the space with sun-loving and deer-resistant plantings including Hameln Grass, Catmint, Longwood Blue Caryopteris and Goldfinger Potentilla.

Woodland Edge Enhancement

This Basking Ridge homeowner was tired of looking at the boring, messy edge of her backyard.  We redefined her view by adding clusters of Brandywine and Seibold Viburnum, native Itea, Double Play® Big Bang® Spirea and Green Giant Arborvitae for an added sense of enclosure.

Deep Shade Front Makeover

This Jockey Hollow Residence was also in need of a refresh that tolerated north-facing, deep shade… and of course deer too!  The shrubs along the foundation were overgrown and spindly while the plantings along the walkway sprawled out creating a messy, undefined look.

Backyard Privacy Screening

The owners of this recent Chatham rebuild, were looking to remove a row of small, recently planted azaleas along their backyard fence line and replace with evergreen privacy screening.

Spruce and Flowering Shrub Fantasy

Erik, was presented with an interesting challenge by one of our Morristown customers:  Turn a useless lawn area into a whimsical spruce forest reminiscent of the Northwest.

Foundation Update

This project is the 3rd for Erik with this local Bernardsville homeowner.  After adding privacy screening for the pool area and refreshing their driveway island, it was time to address the front foundation entry area.

Multi Seasons of Color

This local customer consulted with Erik to wrap his front yard in new planting beds to provide color and texture throughout the season.

Post Storm Backyard Refresh

In this project we utilized all the best deer resistant and shade tolerant shrubs to create a clean, simple and low-maintenance design.
